Princess Tongue

One of the nurses told me a funny story about how her baby had a "princess bum." Every time the baby had the tiniest dirty diaper, the nurse said, the baby would scream until someone changed it for her.

Well, I'm noticing that Miss Brynn has a princess tongue. Her bottle is warmed in a special, expensive hospital warmer that makes the temperature just right and the heating even all the way through (it takes like 20 minutes to heat up and it's really annoying). Unfortunately, it's only barely warm enough so it cools quickly. Brynn has just started eating about 15-20 CCs before she won't have anything to do with the bottle. By happenstance, we were feeding her from two different bottles one feeding. She took 15 CCs from the first and then wouldn't drink any more. When we started in on the second bottle right out of the warmer, she took 20 CCs more. Hmmmm.

The next time we fed her, we tried the same trick with just one bottle. Picture this: she drank 30 CCs. She refused the bottle. We re-warmed it. She drank 20 CCs. She refused the bottle. We re-warmed it. She drank the final 10 CCs for a grand total of 60 CCs! Funny girl.

Looks like from now on we'll have to have two bottles--one for drinking, and one in the warmer! We wouldn't want her princess tongue to have to touch cool milk now would we?

Brynn's princess tongue sucking on her blanket to let us know she's hungry:

Wondering if her bottle is warm yet:

A photo of Brynn's FIRST 50 CCs down the hatch:

Brynn couldn't believe she did it:

What a funny girl, it's so fun to see the little babies develop their likes and dislikes. They are such individuals from the very start. That's so wonderful that she's eating so well, way to go Brynn!

It's so funny how babies have to have things done their way - on their terms. I'm so glad she's doing well. She is so cute!

It never ceases to amaze me how picky tiny little babies can be about how they eat - bottle type, nipples, temperature, etc. The good news is that if Brynn ever gets to breastfeed, the milk will stay warm and not cool off. =)

Hi Natalie - I didn't know if you had heard, but our son Isaac had to have lung surgery last week. It was a long week at the hospital. But all I had to do was think of you guys & man did my little week feel like nothing compared to your over three month stay. Anyway, Isaac is doing well. He's at home recovering and should get to go to school towards the end of next week.

I just wanted to stop by and say I've been thinking about you and Brynn. Much love!

You are going through enough as it is, and you really don't need to worry about MY baby needs. haha! But if you are insistent, e-mail me at lyndsayjohnson@gmail.com. You look great. I'm so glad you found my blog to that I can hook up with yours! Take care.
